Musical Theatre Productions

The Musical Theatre Productions classes of Hickman High School are a graduated program, in which students move to the next level after completing a year in the pre-requisite course.

Musical Productions I is the first step in this program.  This performance class provides students with a basic knowledge of the requirements necessary to produce a musical.   Projects include singing in small ensembles, staging scenes, exploring the varied dance styles used in musical theatre and creating original works.  A large portion of this course is spent in rehearsing and performing a full-scale musical in conjunction with the Musical Productions II, and III classes.  After school and evening rehearsals will be required in February and early March to ensure a quality productions with ample time to rehearse as a full ensemble.

Musical Productions II is the continuation of the basics of performance.  In this course, students will work toward a greater understanding of character analysis and a greater level of comfort and expertise in performance.  Projects in this course include presentation of monologues and solo songs, research/performance projects in which musical theatre is explored from a historical perspective and in participating as performers in the directing projects done by the third and fourth year students.
As with Musical Productions I, this class will spend a large portion of the spring semester in rehearsal for a full scale musical.

Musical Productions III is a directing course in which students learn the basics of script analysis, set and costume design, rehearsal technique and production work.  Each student will choose a musical or play for which he or she will be designing sets and costumes, holding auditions and directing other students in an in-class performance.

The remainder of the course will be spent in preparation for the spring musical with the Musical Productions  I and II classes.
